Chief Instructor - Adults & Kata
Ricky Cleevely
5th Dan
Ricky and Lisa set up Shizentai Judo Club in 2012. Ricky has been active in judo since 2000 and is one of the UK's youngest 5th Dan's. Ricky holds UKCC Level 2 and FPJ Level 2 coaching qualifications, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Ricky is a national referee, the Technical Officer for the Herts and Beds area, and a member of the British Kata Team, with 16 British kata titles to his name.

Lisa Cleevely
2nd Dan
Lisa has been active in Judo since 1997. Lisa holds an FPJ Level 2 coaching qualification, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Lisa is on the British Kata team. Outside of Judo, Lisa is a Mental Health Nurse Prescriber and works with Children who have a Learning Disability and/or Autism. Lisa also has advanced pediatric life support and advanced safeguarding qualifications.

Richard Bannister
3rd Dan
Richard took up judo at the age of 8. and joined the Shizentai team in 2016, following a 16 year absence from the sport.
Richard holds Level 2 coaching qualifications, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Richard has achieved a 1st 4 Sport level 2 qualification, he is also on the British kata team and is a senior kata examiner

Bob Cleevely
4th Dan
Bob started Judo in his 40s when his children picked up the sport, and he hasn't been able to keep away since!
Bob holds UKCC Level 2 and FPJ Level 2 coaching qualifications, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Bob is also a Senior Kata examiner, a regional referee and Coaches members of the British Kata team.

Moshe King
1st Dan
Moshe joined Shizentai as a Kyu grade after training at another Judo club. Moshe joined Shizentai, and quickly achieved his 1st Dan at the club.
Moshe holds an FPJ Level 2 coaching qualification, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications.

Charlotte Preston
2nd Kyu
Charlotte started Judo at Shizentai, not long after the club formed.
Charlotte holds an FPJ Level 1 coaching qualification, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications.
Outside of Judo, Charlotte is a primary school teacher.

Nick Burke
1st Dan
Nick joined Shizentai, as a 4th kyu, not long after the club formed, quickly progressing in his own judo and as a member of the coaching team.
Nick has an up to date DBS, first aid and safeguarding qualification.

Tori Cleevely
2nd Dan
Tori started judo, as soon as she could walk! Following in the footsteps of big brother Ricky.
Tori holds an FPJ Level 2 coaching qualification, and has an up to date DBS, as well as first aid and safeguarding qualifications. Tori is also on the British Kata Team.

Mike Callan
7th Dan
Dr Mike Callan is a Judo Professor at The University of Hertfordshire. He provides valuable support to the club in an advisory role and often pops by to share his expertise and knowledge with our members and coaching team!
Welfare and Admin Lead
Jackie Gaitely
Jackie will likely be the first face you see when you come into the club. Jackie, prior to retiring, worked in a local primary school for 20 + years and ran an after school care service. Jackie has an up to date DBS, Safeguarding level 2, First Aid, and an advanced NSPCC Welfare course to enable her to fulfill the club welfare officer position.

Adriana Burian
Adriana joined the team in 2024. After bringing her son to judo for a couple of years, Adriana then started judo herself , and now supports the club in the role of welfare officer.
